I agree, Barbara. So often when I'm driving around SoCo I say to my husband, "if this were France we'd be saying it's so beautiful, why can't we live here?"
Thanks for reading and writing. And I can't wait to see Michelle Pfeiffer in "Cheri."

When the June gloom fog has lifted, the bluest sky suddenly appears, our tree-filled, vineyard-studded county becomes the most gorgeous scene we'd ooh and ahh over if we saw it in Tuscany or the Dordogne, especially the vantage of a hill overlooking ponds and farm houses. One of the pleasures of being older--this ties in with your previous post about women's faces and slow food kind of appreciation--is feeling satisfied with bounty around you. I know we all love the rush of not getting that passport until last minute and making plans for the hotel in Paris--the shoebox for mucho euros--but paying for it now is really tough so I loved the praise of stay-cation, as I loved celebration of women's natural faces. Have you kept up with controversy over 'cougar', term that Michelle Pfeiffer hates for older woman with younger men. She'll be perfect as Lea in "Cheri".

Swim in the Russian River, walk on Sonoma County beaches (before fees set in), attend free farmers' markets...taste wines at no-charge tasting rooms ( care to name them?), drive over Coleman Valley Road with brakes poised to stop on a moments notice for an impromptu cattle crossing, walk around Spring Lake, visit local farm markets...where you can plan your picnic and enjoy those locally produced delicacies on a picnic. Stay-cations are easy to do in Sonoma County.

Thanks, Susan. I took a nap with the intention of awaking with the perfect vacation idea, knowing I needed to take one, but not knowing how I could afford to do anything fun.I awoke and there was your email with the latest. Blog.Perfect.
