Hi, Susan:
I
I'm already on your e-list so if I'm sending you this from another address please ignore it. I'm still only one person, although I have three, no four email addresses including my SRJC one.

See how complicated things have become?

It's the clock/watch thing. Exactly. Es la vida moderna.

I'm sitting here at a friend's house overlooking the ocean on the Mexican coast (which is why I'm feeling relaxed enough to write you my comments) and the only light is the tiny pseudo keyboard on my iPhone.

I always used to wear a glow in the dark analog Timex with a silver metal case and a black leather band. Until recently.

The cell phone is exact and in charge, and while an almost indispensable traveling take along, it's no watch.

You've got me thinking - I may change the battery in my old one when I get home!

I am always glad when I land on your site. You are a kindred spirit. I too was inspired by
Makers and posted about it. And I can think of many brave women they deserve
recognition. How about that young girl in Pakistan who stood up for educating
women and was the subject of the attack. I don't have her name in front of me but
she deserves our salute.

Great choices, Susan. I'd like to suggest another courageous woman who is perhaps the voice of women's sports opportunities. Donna Lopiano has been a role model and steely advocate for women's equality, best know for supporting women and girls right to participate in sports. An expert in Title IX, the law that mandates equality in education, including sports, Donna was the executive director and face of the Women's Sports Foundation for 15 pivotal years. Donna is coming to SSU Mar. 27 to celebrate Title IX and talk about the past and present challenges to women's rights. 7 pm Cooperage, SSU campus.

Hi,
Saw it and may go again. Loved the way music was used so sparingly (and an actual pianist played the part of the star pupil). The silence was profound and allowed such an intimacy. I realized this was the same Jean Paul T. of "A Man and a Woman" which I loved as a young woman in 1966. So seeing him old....was oddly consoling. I did not shed a tear, I was just rapt in appreciation, admiration, and recognition, having witnessed my parents. I supported everything Georges stood for.

Thank you for writing this. I saw Amour with a friend about my age, and afterwards we sat in stunned silence. It's beautifully done, an important film that needed to be made. And we need to see it.

As you say, we're now the "die-able" generation, and it won't do us any good to put our heads in the sand about how our lives might deteriorate. I hate writing that -- I usually write upbeat books about senior sex! But this, too, is reality -- better to learn about it and talk about it than deny or ignore it.

Thanks for opening the conversation, Susan.

"But life’s realities have continued. My parents and my husband’s parents are gone. We’ve moBved to the front of the line. “We are all becoming die-able,” I said after a funeral for a friend."

Your quote rings so true. I haven't seen the movie, but I will. When I see a frame of "Three Generations" and realize it's not my grandmother as the oldest in that generation picture, it's me, your "front of the line" comment hits home. I love Bob's comment, "the point is to get old!"
